Criminal Records
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is the primary custodian of all criminal history records of individuals resident within its jurisdiction. The Bureau allows interested members of the general public to obtain state-wide criminal history on any adult and also offers background checks to individuals and qualified organizations. These services are not provided by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.
How to get Criminal Records
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation processes requests for full Tennessee adult criminal history records and background checks. Interested persons may send their requests online using the Tennessee Open Records Information Services which requires requestor information as well as personal information of the subject. Respondents are also required to pay a non-refundable search fee of $29 in order to validate their requests.
Alternatively, mail and in-person requests may be sent to the Criminal Justice Information Services Division of the Bureau. This must include information about the subject as well as a cashiers cheque payment of $29, and then sent to:

How to get Arrest Records & Police Reports
Requests for arrest records and police reports are processed by the Warrants & Records Division of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office. All records including criminal warrants and orders of protection can be obtained by calling the division on (615) 898-7877 or sending a completed Public Information Release Request Form to records@rcsotn.org.

Vital Records
All birth, death, marriage and divorce records of the State of Tennessee are pooled and managed by the Vital Records Division of the Tennessee Department of Health. Vital records of persons born, married, divorced or who died in Rutherford County can be obtained by querying the Office of Vital Records or the Rutherford Health Department and the Office of the County Clerk which co-manage vital records at county level.

The Rutherford Circuit Court Clerk’s Office processes requests to view and/or copy divorce records of divorces granted within the county's jurisdiction.

At state level, copies of certified divorce records can be obtained by querying the Vital Records Department of the Tennessee Department of Public health using the Application for Certified Copy of Tennessee Certificate of Divorce or Annulment. Where and How to get Marriage Records
Marriage records in Rutherford County are maintained by the Office of the County Clerk - that is, if the marriage license of the union was issued by the office.
Copies of marriage records may be obtained by delivering (by mail or in person ), a written request for the copies which must include the date of the marriage as well as the spouses names. Requests may be directed to:

Where and How to get Birth & Death Records
Requests for death and birth records (for deaths and births on or after 1949) are processed by the Rutherford Department of Public Health or the Vital Records Division of the Tennessee Department of Health. As per state requirements, requestors are required to meet eligibility requirements in order to obtain these records. Thus, supplicants must be directly related to the subject or have a legal or official backing to view these records.
