Criminal Records

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation maintains criminal records in the state and grants public access to these records through the Tennessee Open Records Information Services (TORIS). To order, fill and submit the Requestor Information Form with personal details including first and last names, street address, phone number, and email. Each request costs $29 and is non-refundable. Credit cards from Visa, Discover, or MasterCard are acceptable means of payment.

Qualified organizations that cater to children and other vulnerable people can request more comprehensive fingerprint-based criminal records. To use this method, the organization must provide an ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) number, or first obtain one from the TBI. Fees for this method range from $21.90 to $35.15 per request, depending on the organization.

To request for a criminal record offline, call the TORIS at (615) 744-4057.

All public law enforcement records are accessible from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. To request for a record, complete the TBI’s Public Records Inspection Request, specifying the type of record and number of copies required. Each copy costs 15 cents.

The TBI maintains records of sex offenders in the state. Visit the online Sex Offender Registry and select Madison from the County drop-down menu, to restrict the search to Madison County. Other options for limiting the search results apart from the offender’s first/last name include Tid Number (Offender Unique ID), and Zip Code.
